November 2015 – Earlier this year, long time computer and mobile device accessory leader Logitech brought out a new mid-size mouse that is a targeted companion to the multi-platform user. The size is designed for working with convertibles/ultrabooks, laptops and desktops. The mouse is Bluetooth connected to the computers through the Bluetooth Smart interface or the provided USB-A plug in dongle. There is a connect and select button so the one mouse can be easily connected to 3 computers at select any one of the three to operate on.

The mouse is rechargeable via USB, and can be used while charging. A single charge is stated as usable for up to 2 months. This is highly use dependent, but the reality of the time between charges on a 8-9hr per day / 6 day week use model was over 6 weeks.

The two major technology features in mouse are (A) the new Darkfield Laser technology and (B) the gesture button. The Darkfield laser allows the mouse to work at high resolution, and without skipping or stalling, on almost every surface. Most mice require some sort of mouse pad that is an anti-reflective surface. The MX Anywhere2 mouse can work on glossy surfaces, including glass with the same performance as on a mouse pad. The gesture button is new and is designed to support touchscreen targeted operating systems such as Windows 8 or 10. By pressing the button, the mouse now acts as a gesture source for up, down, right and left rather than a detailed pointing device. This allows for “swiping” the screen, and selecting apps from tiles.

The mouse supports customization of the buttons, scroll wheel and the side buttons via Logitech Options software that can be downloaded from the Logitech support site. The device is nominally configured via windows as pointing device and require no external driver to use.

The mouse is available from Logitech on-line and at most e-tailers and retailers who carry computer accessories.
